how my family is managing being uninsured!

Christmas is a wonderful time to catch up with all your family.  This year the subject was all about how my two brothers were going to manage their disabilities without healthcare.

One brother that had the MVA has applied for Temporary Disability while waiting for surgeries and the Auto insurance settlement, and is lucky enough to have a spouse that is working 2 and sometimes 3 jobs to keep their house from going into foreclosure and to have enough money to pay for his prescriptions,…

Family stories of the hazards of not having insurance!

True Stories of the horrors of not having insurance are what I want to talk about.....no exaggerations please!  Actually after hearing one my stories...you'll probably think I am exaggerating and making up  aspects of the story to make it more sensational.....But....NO I'm not!

My brother was in a MVA head-on collision in June 2011....not his fault so the other driver is responsible.

The other driver does have good insurance, and at some point his medical bills will be paid.…

Politically Perfect Legislation

I am one of those jaded souls who long ago gave up hope that Congress would ever do anything right.  But I now stand corrected as our leaders have indeed crafted the epitome of politically perfect legislation.

Part of our new health law contains a provision for sick people who can’t get insurance anywhere else.  Unfortunately it has been dead on arrival. After one year, less than 1/10th of 1%...21,000 out of an estimated 25M uninsured people with cancer, heart disease…

Flushed Down the Doughnut Hole?

Seniors caught in the Medicare Part D coverage gap known as the doughnut hole are twice as likely to stop taking their medication, a new study found.  Penny wise and pound foolish?  One more indication that financial conditions carry great weight in health decisions and could be causing health issues that create more cost than it would take to close the doughnut hole gap.  Sigh, will we ever learn?…

How to Find a Good Physician

I thought I would continue my "article series" about doctors.  This continues from my article "Top Ten Reasons To Get A New Doctor."  I hope this all helps.

First thing to decide is what kind of doctor do you need?

A primary care physician is like a quarterback who orchestrates the team.  Feeling comfortable with this physician is of paramount importance…

Markets Down Big Today...only the worse ahead?

The markets took a hit today and it's making the experts think about the famous "double dip" saying and whether we are headed to another recession.  I am speaking of this because I used to be a trader on Wall Street before I was uninsured...  But things took a hit and here I am.  Funny how things change...What will happen to us if we hit another recession.

The big conundrum that I never understood about people who are against public assistance of any kind…

Medical Insurance & Malaysia

I wanted to write this article after reading Harold Cherry's blog post here about "Medical Tourism".  I used to live in Malaysia for a couple years.  Having a family of four I was shocked to realize that I had to only pay 600 USD a year, yes I said a year, for the top most health insurance that country had.  That covered me, my wife, and two small children.   Not only that, but my wife, who…

Top 7 Countries For Medical Tourism

Many Americans think that their medical services, hospitals and doctors are far better to that of other countries and areas, especially third world countries. That statement couldn’t be farther from the truth. In fact, many foreign countries are known for being one of the best in their particular specialty. The World Health Organization recently ranked the quality of health care in over 191 countries and the United States ranked a dismal 37th. Unbelievable? Nope. Many Asian and South…

Protect yourself with a Personal Health record

In the future, we'll all probably have an Electronic Health Record or EHR someplace...or perhaps many of them strewn about at various healthcare providers we've visited over the years.  Providers will create EHRs for their own purposes, namely to record and share information about your treatment quickly between staff that need to know and get rid of costly and error prone paper records.  We may also have a Personal Health Record or PHR.  We can think of these… Continue

Has it really come to this...?

Look at this man...If you haven't heard by now (and tell me if this story does not break your heart), this is a picture of Richard Verone.  Now normally I don't think the name would hit most Americans the way Michael Jackson's or President Obama's would, but I think today his name will resonate…

Welcome to a new way of living...or has it always been like this?

Hi everyone...

Although our official site launch is on Monday, if you are not new to this site then you know that we have been moving along with its construction pretty fast.  In fact, the site is pretty much functional as far as the community aspect is concerned.  And considering this is probably 90 percent of the site, I would figure that its not all that shabby.  Anyone can join this site, or should I say community/social network. Here you can express and share your ideas,…
