How It Works

If you are uninsured, when you go get your prescription filled, you're probably going to pay the "list price"...like the Rack Rate at a hotel or MSRP at a car dealer.  When you have an insurance card, you get the benefit of two "discounts".

  • Discount level 1 - All insurance companies either own or work with companies called Pharmacy Benefit Managers (PBMs).  PBMs negotiated discounted rates with pharmacies in exchange for including them in their network.  The benefit of a pharmacy to be in a network is to get traffic (that's you) with the expectation that you'll buy more than the just your prescription.  (Why do you think there's usually a wait and the pharmacy is always in the back of the store requiring you to walk past the aisles of merchandise).
  • Discount level 2 - With insurance cards, they usually "guarantee" you'll only have to pay a flat fee for your prescription, after your deductible of course and if the medicine is on their formulary.  For this you pay and/or your employer pays a monthly fee part of which goes to pay for this additional discount and part of which goes to administration and profit.

There is no reason why you have to pay list prices for medications.  Whether brand name or generic, your prescription medication can be purchased with the level 1 discounts noted above. with up to 85% discount off list prices and an average of 46% on all medicines when using this card.  The card is valid at most pharmacies with almost 60,000 participating location nationwide.

Present the card with a valid prescription at a participating pharmacy, and your discounts will be applied.  Read more on our forum.
